Leadership Development

Often student do not have ample opportunities to develop leadership skills in the classroom and laboratory settings. To provide students with such an important opportunity, the Division of Student Affairs has launched the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Program. The program’s purposes are:

1. To prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities;

2. To help students explore and develop personal philosophies of leadership;

3. To explore the foundations of leadership, especially ethical practices in leadership, moral leadership, character and value development, and theoretical foundations of leadership; and

4. To help students understand and participate in service-learning, servant-leadership, and volunteerism.

Through the LEAD Program, many students will have the opportunity to participate in national and regional leadership experiences such as:

  • Savannah State University Character-and Values-Based Leadership Retreat (Urbana,  IL)
  • Student Leadership Institute (co-sponsored by the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals) (Bowie, MD)
  • Georgia Student Leadership Forum on Faith and Values (Atlanta, GA)
  • African American Student Leadership Conference (Rust College, MS)
