23 Student-Athletes Receive Degrees

SAVANNAH, Ga- Twenty-three Savannah State student-athletes received degrees at the university's 172ND commencement exercises at Tiger Arena, representing ten sports.
Two received degrees from the master's program. Thirteen athletes graduated with honors with seven graduating cum laude and six graduating magna cum laude.
The football program had the most graduates with five.
Nine graduates came from the College of Science & Technology, eight from the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and four from the College of Business Administration.
Earning degrees from the Master of Public Administration program were Joshua Obiajunwa (men's basketball) and Ashley Sapp (women's volleyball and basketball).
Football players graduating were: Rashad Jackson (criminal justice), Tarik Maxwell (recreation and parks administration), John Walker (chemistry), Antoine Stewart (electronics engineering technology) and Rasheed Lawal (chemistry).
Women's basketball players graduating were Milan Johnson (biology), LaToya James (mass communications) and Stacy Cobb (mathematics).
Men's basketball players were Alvin Edwards (criminal justice) and Donald Pearson (mathematics).
Women track & field were Tenille Whitehead (behavior analysis), Tenisha Whitehead (biology) and Tori Smith (social work).
Baseball were Teon Robinson (management), David Rowland (management) and Bryon Weston (management).
Women's tennis were Chantasia Bridges (mathematics) and Candace Cooley (chemistry).
Softball was Jessalyn Ross (criminal justice).
Women's golf was Courtney Gilchrist (criminal justice).
Men's golf was Zachary Gelow (management).
Graduating magna cum laude were Gelow, Gilchrist, Ross, Lawal, Cooley and Cobb.
Graduating cum laude were Rowland, Edwards, Smith, Johnson, Bridges Tenille Whitehead and Tenisha Whitehead.
Students earning at least a 3.40 grade point average qualified to graduate magna cum laude and students having at least a 3.00 grade point average qualified to graduate cum laude. |
