Bucs Beat SSU In Extra Innings

SAVANNAH, Ga- Charleston Southern scored four runs in the 10th inning and held on to beat Savannah State 5-1 at Tiger Field.
Even though the teams combined to leave 12 runners on base, at the end of nine innings of play the score was tied at one.
Mark Perry had a sacrifice bunt that scored Tyler Thornburg in the top of the sixth for CSU. The Buccaneers left two runners on base. In the bottom of the inning, SSU left the bases loaded but could only score one run as Brandon Javis tied the score on a RBI single by Brian Johnson.
SSU went hitless in innings seven through nine but managed a double from Kyle Wilkerson in the bottom of the 10th.
Charleston Southern (11-15) scored four runs off five hits in the top of the 10th.
Thornburg and Jake Cox had two hits each for the Bucs. Payton Tweddale pitched 4.2 innings of relief to get the win.
Alfred Arnold pitched 9.2 innings for Savannah State (16-11). Arnold struck out seven batters but surrendered seven hits, four runs and four walks. Tristan Smith had two singles for the Tigers.
SSU will host Florida A&M at Tiger Field on April 5 and 6 starting at 1:00 p.m.
