Allen Edwards
First season at SSU

Allen Edwards enters his first year as the defensive line coach at Savannah State University. Edwards comes to Savannah State from Lexington High School in Lexington, South Carolina where he was the defensive coordinator in 2007. He also served as the defensive coordinator at North Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Georgia, from 2005-06.

From 1998 to 2004, Edwards coached at Furman University as the defensive line coach. During that span, Furman won the Southern Conference Championship three times (1999, 2001 and 2003). He was also a member of Furman coaching staff in the Division I-AA national championship game against Montana in 2001. Before returning to his alma mater, Edwards was the defensive line coach at Spartanburg High School in his hometown of Spartanburg, S.C. from 1993-97. While there, Spartanburg won state championships in 1994 thru 1996, and recorded two undefeated seasons.

Edwards graduated from Furman with a degree in history in 1993 and earned his master’s in arts and teaching from Converse College in 1998. He was a member of the Furman's 1988 I-AA National Championship football team, three Southern Conference championship teams (1988-90), and was named Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1991. In total, Edwards has six conference championships with Furman, three as a player, and three as a coach.

Edwards is single and currently resides in Savannah, Georgia. He has a daughter, Kinsley.
