Jose Gonzalez
Second season at SSU
Gonzalez enters his second season as an assistant coach at SSU. After working with the defensive backs and special teams last year, he will coach the inside linebackers this season.
In 2006, he worked at Georgia Southern where he coached wide receivers. Prior to working at GSU, he worked at Metter High School in Metter, Georgia coaching wide receivers and defensive backs, from 2004-2005. From 2001-03 he was defensive and special teams coordinator, as well as running backs and defensive backs coach at Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
A two-year letterman at Southern Mississippi, Gonzalez garnered second team all conference honors, in 1998, as a free safety. The Jacksonville, Fl. native earned a degree in exercise science from USM in 2000, and went on to play in the Indoor Professional Football League for the Mississippi Firedogs. That year, the Firedogs were IPFL Champions.
Gonzalez and his wife, Malinda, have a son Cameron (1). He also has two other children; Quincy (8), and Gabriel (7).
